sorry but if you’re an organizer of these things and you are frequently and loudly ensuring a culture of true consent (especially in the cnc world) you silence is suspect to say the very least. If it’s your event, and people are being assaulted you should take that fucking personally and seriously.

And honestly, none of this belongs in any kind of professional culture whatsoever. Sorry to be a prude but work and play are two different things and historically do not mix well.

I don't think that's being a prude at all.

Yeah - I think that's true but in small industries/subcultures it starts to become kind of impossible, which adds more responsibility all around.

fair and most of my friends work in the same industry as me and started or are still colleagues. but having strict boundaries have always been good practice for work vs everything else. and that takes mutual understanding and acknowledgment.

And to be very clear, I’ve had hook ups with people I work with or around. but again, boundaries and compartmentalization is key. When that breaks down, it’s always trouble. Anyone who isn’t capable of those things shouldn’t engage in such. And none of this is “networking” by any means.

Yeah - I mean I think the fact that it becomes hard is a reason to work harder on it, rather than to excuse it.
