I read the story and I find it extremely... interesting that he set up a world where by his apparent rationalist principles the *right* ending has humanity transformed to eliminate suffering, but he clearly *hates* this ending and both the "normal" ending and "true" endings frame it as bad... 1/2

Y’know this does actually heavily recontextualize Ziz’ conclusions she was uniquely moral among her peers and that EA/Rationalists were persecuting and hostile to her for rejecting their culture. It doesn’t excuse the cult and murders, but it helps explain a lot of how she and her fellows got there.

I remember reading this years ago, and being like “the fuck?” at that part. I thought the author was just trying to be edgy, but it makes a bit more sense that it was just a Tom Clancy-esque insertion of a kink for no plot justified reason.
