Yes, his work reminds me of Gorey, and Peggy Bacon’s illustrations in “The Ghost of Opalina” too. If you’re not familiar with her—she’s pretty much forgotten now—I’ve attached a few.

i just ordered a paperback copy of this, can’t wait to see all the illustrations
sadly the hardcovers cost like $500 so i had to restrain myself

I loved that book so much as a kid, I bought the paperback for my niece—because there’s no chance that I’ll give her my own copy! I’ll bet you’ll enjoy it.
