If a ship has dragged its anchor for some time, what kind of proof could you find by boarding the ship afterwards, if a crew doesn't want there to be any evidence like entries into the log? Are there any automated systems that would record such events?

What would be a reasonable excuse to have the anchor lowered? Would you happen to know if it had had a recent stop at sea?
